Burp-On-Demand

June 28th, 2009 by Peter

I was doing some tidying up this morning when Brianna walked in carrying a disposable plastic cup.

“Dad, when I squeeze the cup, you have to burp.”
“Brianna,” I said, being my usual wet towel, “I can’t just burp whenever I want to.”
“No,” she reminded me, in case I’d forgotten: “when I squeeze the cup.”

Heil Brianna!

Tenty

June 27th, 2009 by Peter

Caitlin happened to see the two fifty dollar notes I had on my desk the other day (I’ve been saving up for months) and her first instinct was, of course, to grab it and run. Eventually she came back and asked how much it added up to.

“You know what fifty plus fifty is, don’t you?” I asked.
“Tenty?” she replied.
“Tenty?” I asked incredulously, thinking that perhaps I should call the publishers of the Oxford English Dictionary, because they’d probably missed that one.
“I only know that five and five is ten, so fifty and fifty must be tenty.”
“I’m not sure that they’ll know that at the bank,” I warned her. “It’s actually a hundred.”
“A hundred?!” she asked in amazement.
ZOOM!
And just like that, it was gone again.

B

June 23rd, 2009 by Chris

I have received the results for my very first exam and I am happy to report I survived it!

It was a very personal achievement for me and I was rewarded with a B.

I had to write a narrative of 800 to 1000 words in 90 minutes. We were being marked on how interesting it was, grammar, sentence structure and punctuation. Out of the exam questions I chose Pen the first chapter of a novel titled  “The Cage” and I managed 841 words. It was a big learning curve and I hope to do better in exams to come.

Futurama Returns!

June 14th, 2009 by Peter

It’s apparently been confirmed that Futurama will return for another season next year, after seven years off the air. Yay! I say off the air, although there have been four direct-to-DVD movies released over the past couple of years. But it’s one of our favourite shows and I’m looking forward to some new episodes!

Happy Birthday Brianna

June 8th, 2009 by Peter

Brianna has turned five – what a talented youngster! She takes after her father, of course, who, even at school, was known for his methodical and careful approach to aging, and is yet to skip a single birthday.

We had numerous small guests on Saturday, as well as some of our friends, as well as Chris’s parents, to help celebrate. Sunday saw my side of the family over for tea, cake and celebrations of the season. How do you do, Mr Knightly?

Thanks to all who attended.

The biggest present is for us, of course, when Brianna finally goes to school in a couple of months.  We like this!

Update.

June 8th, 2009 by Chris

Well, I received my results and I am happy to say: another A, yay!

Spoon

May 28th, 2009 by Peter

In an apparent follow-up to her question on purple the other week, Brianna has posed another sticky one:

What spoon is it?

I suggested that she probably meant “Which spoon is it?”. She neither confirmed nor denied this.

Again, we welcome any contributions on this topic.

So far so good!

May 26th, 2009 by Chris

Well, last night I gave my oral presentaion, for an analysis of four Wordsworth poems. I made a lovely PowerPoint presentation, and I also used a photo Jane took of Westminster bridge. Yes, I made sure Jane got full credit for it! I got an A, yay! I have now completed five assignments and have results for four. I am waiting on the results for my presentation for publication, in which I chose to do an anthology of poems, which of course, I wrote myself. It is worth a large percentage of my marks, so I will post the results as soon as I have them. So currently, I am sitting on four A’s, yay!

Stagefright!

May 26th, 2009 by Peter

On Friday 22 May we all went to see Scooby-Doo live at Her Majesty’s
Theatre in a production called Stagefright! The girls had a ball, and
Chris and I went partially deaf thanks to the “audience participation”
of about a thousand kids. Good all round!

Yes! Yes! Yes!

May 13th, 2009 by Chris

I am thrilled, that I was indeed right about Leonard Nimoy’s slight difficulty with his false teeth!

Oh yes, I was thought mad, and what on earth would I be doing noticing something so subtle: I should have been watching the movie!

Well of course I was watching the movie: that’s how I noticed the false teeth!
